This little happy trio made their way to my deck some time ago. They were probably looking for crumbs or whatever leftovers they could find from the last barbecue.
You might find that their attributes resemble the Haematopus ostralegus and then not. You are quite correct. These are the mutant cousins of the previously mentioned species, a trio of hybrids, made in the mexican tradition of making alebrijes.
In this case it means that they were born according to the taxonomy. They were gifted with an extra toe and the big brother birdie has goat eyes. He is the one that is super alert and always watches out for his younger siblings.
