Today I sent off small contribution to the collective project Art for humanity. The motif of the project is to set a mark for diversity, solidarity and humanity.
Four banners will be created and exposed in Dreiländerbrücke, Atelier Mondial, Stapflehus and Holzpark Klybeck. Read more on Facebook, the Gender tipi group.
The piece I made is crochet and embroidery asking “Where are they?”. The number 43, refers to the 43 teacher students from the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers’ College that went missing in Iguala, Guerrero, Mexico on September 26, 2014. It’s been 29 months now and the parents, family and friends are still asking the same question.
This is only one of the coverups from the Mexican government. We need to keep asking questions and making the unjustices visible. When words are not enough, art can be a vehicle to carry our messages forward. We can all put a spotlight on the issues that really need to be addressed. Together we can set the mark.
